Samsung’s Galaxy S20 series is already receiving the July security patch

A few camera improvements are included as well.

What you need to know

  • Samsung is rolling out a new software update for its flagship Galaxy S20 series phones.
  • The update brings some camera improvements, along with the July 2020 security patch.
  • It is currently rolling out only in South Korea, but is expected to expand to a few other markets soon.

Since late last year, Samsung has consistently been rolling out the latest monthly Android security patches to its flagship phones before Google and other Android OEMs. The company has now started rolling out the July 2020 security patch to its Galaxy S20 series phones. In addition to the latest security patch, the update brings a few camera improvements as well.

As per SamMobile, the latest software update for the Galaxy S20 series comes with improvements to high-magnification shots and video stabilization. The update also adds the ability to use Bluetooth microphones when recording audio using the Voice Recording app. Additionally, the update ends support for the MirrorLink standard. This isn't surprising, however, as Samsung had confirmed plans of dropping support for MirrorLink, Car Mode, and Find My Car services in April this year.

The update is currently rolling out to the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 Plus, and Galaxy S20 Ultra owners in South Korea. In the coming days, however, the July update is likely to become available in a few more markets. Samsung's older flagship phones such as the Galaxy Note 10 and S10 series phones are also expected to begin receiving the latest security patch soon.

Once the update becomes available in your region, you will receive a notification on your phone. You can also check for the update manually by opening the Settings app and heading to Software update > Download and install.
