At its upcoming virtual Galaxy Unpacked event on August 5, Samsung is expected to launch two new foldable smartphones alongside the Note 20 series: Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Galaxy Z Flip 5G. According to a new report from ETNews, the two foldable phones will have near-identical price tags as their predecessors. An alleged render of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 has also surfaced, revealing a completely revamped design.
The purported render of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 was shared online by tipster Ice Universe on Twitter, although it was first posted on Weibo. As you can see above, the blurry render shows the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in the same "Mystic Bronze" color as the Galaxy Note 20 series and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G. Samsung's Galaxy Buds Live and Galaxy Watch 3 are also expected to be available in the same color option.
If the report from ETNews is to be believed, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 will be priced at $1,990. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G, on the other hand, will be priced at $1,370. Unlike the Galaxy Fold, however, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 will apparently not come bundled with a pair of true wireless earbuds. The render also reveals a significantly larger outer display than the original Fold, and a rear camera module that looks fairly similar to the Galaxy Note 20 series.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is rumored to feature a 7.7-inch main display and a 6.23-inch cover display. In addition to bigger screens, the foldable flagship is also expected to use Ultra Thin Glass (UTG), Qualcomm's Snapdragon 865+ chipset, upgraded cameras, and a 4,365mAh battery with 25W fast charging. Thanks to all the hardware upgrades and a more durable design, Samsung is hoping to ship 3 million units of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 annually.
Samsung is expected to release its first affordable line of foldable smartphones in 2021, after the supply of foldable displays gets stabilized. The report also claims Samsung is unlikely to launch the "Galaxy Fold Lite" this year, due to the limited supply of foldable display panels.
